The Times Union published this photo Feb. 11 that was taken Feb. 4 by Vincent Giordano, the college’s photography/multimedia specialist.

The caption reads: Heath Science students at Hudson Valley Community College recently began volunteering as COVID-19 contact tracers to assist the Rensselaer County Health Department. After completing the John Hopkins University’s online course, Nursing, Dental Hygiene and Community Health Navigation students are working from a call center on the Troy campus to help curtail the spread of the coronavirus.
“This is a perfect example of how Hudson Valley and its students can serve as a community resource,” said President Roger Ramsammy. And the students are gaining invaluable experience, as well as credit toward the clinical and service learning requirements for their degree. Health Science Dean Patricia Klimkewicz said “All of the students who participate will learn skills that will serve them in their profession, including active listening, ethics and the importance of public health. This is really a unique opportunity: being a health science student during a pandemic and dealing hands-on with a public health crisis.” Pictured in the call center, located in the Guenther Enrollment Services Center, on is Peter Childs, a nursing student. Childs is a respiratory therapist and works at St. Peter’s Hospital.
